If you visit Austria on Christmas time, it is hard that you will not bump into these famous delicate and friable sweets. You will find them in the original recipe or in variations, for instance dipped into chocolate, and they are usually served with hot chocolate or tea.

Ingredients (for about 50 biscotti):

  • 140 gr all purpose flour (I use the Costco one for baking sweets)
  • 120 gr butter at room temperature
  • 60 gr hazelnuts, finely minced (should become like a flour)
  • 35 gr powdered sugar
  • vanilla extract
  • a pinch of salt
  • powdered sugar to sprinkle

Directions:

In a bowl combine all the ingredients, starting with butter and flour, and knead until blended.

Chill the dough until firm, for about two hours.

Preheat the oven to 340 degrees.

Divide the dough into small parts. Roll each section into logs approximately 3 inch long and bend the pieces into a crescent shape.

Bake for about 15 minutes.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar, once they cool down.
